She may appear to people as a young girl or an elderly woman, offering them apples that she always carries with her. It's said that the taste of those apples can reveal a person's fate — whether it will be sweet, sour, or bitter. According to one legend passed down by our ancestors, Yablunytsia was once an orphan girl constantly tormented by a demanding, wealthy man. She worked for him in exchange for food, always diligent and hardworking, but received no gratitude or praise from him — only an ever-growing workload. Unable to bear it any longer, the girl went to fetch water from the river and never returned. She turned into an apple tree. Because her soul was kind, she brings no harm to people as a mavka.
