- Bestiary of Mythical Creatures and Monsters

We’ve already talked about the heroes of myths and legends — but what would they be without worthy enemies? Certainly not heroes. Would they be remembered? Probably not. Every hero must face a rival. And the more powerful and fascinating that villain is, the greater the victory. They coexist like day and night — one has no meaning without the other. That’s why when we talk about mythology, we don’t just mean heroes — we also mean fearsome and cruel monsters, incredible and unpredictable creatures, magical and unseen beasts.
Mythical creatures can be anything. Any size, any strength. They may possess incredible magical powers or be cunning and elusive. The more unusual the creature — the more captivating it is to follow. And the more we feel for the hero who faces it. Think of the first Cyclops in the *Odyssey* — an enormous one-eyed giant. The chances of beating him in a head-on fight? Nearly zero. And yet, the escape from him felt like a true victory. Yes, sometimes even running away is a triumph.
But not all creatures, beasts, and monsters in legends are evil or cruel. There are plenty of kind and peaceful beings who help heroes — sometimes in their darkest hour. And that help can be so incredible and magical that you might wish you had one of them by your side… or even as a pet!
So in this category, we’ll do our best to collect as many mythical beings and monsters as possible — so you can be amazed by their diversity and number. Because no matter which mythology you explore, along with the countless gods and heroes, you’ll always find just as many — if not more — monsters, beasts, and fantastic creatures.
