MahuraMahura is a cloud maiden in Slavic mythology, the beautiful and warlike daughter of Perun. She has wings and wears a golden helmet and armor, armed with a spear and shield. She is the patroness of brave warriors and bogatyrs, encouraging them on the battlefield with her battle cries, instilling hope in their hearts, and inspiring them toward victory. In both her role and her image, she closely resembles the Norse valkyries.
If a warrior received a mortal wound, Mahura would descend to him from the heavens, embrace him with her wings, and kiss him. She would then offer him water to drink from a golden chalice, and if he drank it, he would be granted a swift and painless death. The warrior's soul would immediately pass into Vyriy, where it would dwell in paradise until its next reincarnation. It's said that those who received a kiss from Mahura remember it forever — both after death and in their next life.
