The Colossus of Rhodes was a giant statue of the Greek god Helios. It stood at the entrance to the harbor of the island of Rhodes. It was built between 292 and 280 BCE. At the time it stood, it was considered the tallest statue in the world, at roughly 30 meters. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BCE.
