The Sea-GoatThe sea-goat is a mythical creature found in many mythologies, depicted as half goat, half fish. Its image is familiar to everyone as the symbol of the Capricorn constellation. But the creature's roots trace back to Mesopotamia and Babylon, where it symbolized the god Enki.
The ancient Greeks had a myth about the Capricorn constellation. It tells how Zeus battled the monster Typhon. The creature tore the sinews from the god's arms and legs and hid them in a cave. Pan, the god of the wild, disguised himself as a sea-goat, made his way into the cave, stole back the sinews, and returned them to Zeus. Restored, the Thunderer defeated Typhon. As a reward for his help, Zeus placed Pan in the sky in the form of the constellation Capricorn.
