AethonAethon is the eagle that tormented Prometheus by order of Zeus. For thirty thousand years, it pecked at the Titan's liver every day, until Heracles killed it with an arrow. Afterward, Aethon, Prometheus, and the arrow rose into the sky as a constellation. It seems Zeus willingly allowed Heracles to kill his eagle, so that Heracles might win glory for the deed.
